I have to say that I've seen several babies that were way underweight,
and in every case the Mom didn't see it until I demonstrated that the
baby wasn't taking in breastmilk, I think they didn't believe it until
they came back one week later, after they were feeding the baby usually
finger feeding  and pumping, I think they are too close to see it for
one thing, but more I think they don't want to see it,  but surely there
is some depression or something to explain this Mom's  not seeing it for
so long.

And let's remember to point out to people that the problem was that this
baby wasn't being fed.  I imagine that he had a sucking problem or
something and eventually the mother's milk supply dwindled to nothing.

Most of my Moms would say that the baby is 'eating' all the time!  They
had to be shown that their baby wasnt sucking properly and not getting
the milk available even after their supply had dwindled. And after they
were shown how many wet diapers and stools the baby should be
having.
