The Family Nutrition Book by the Sears P. 241 He talks about DHA being in
breastmilk but not in MOST formulas
"New research is providing what mothers have long suspected: Breastmilk does
build better brains"
(snip)
"Human milk contains higher levels of DHA, and autoopsy analyisi of brain
tissue shopws that the cerebral cortex of a breastfed baby has a higher level
of DHA than that of a formula-fed baby. The longer the infant is breastfed,
the higher the concentration of DHA in the brain." In formula-fed infants,
DHA levels were lower and the brain cells contained more omega-6 fatty acids.
While adults can make DHA from other fats, albeit poorly, infants have a
extremely limited ability to do so. Thus, formuila-fed infants actuallly have
a DHA deficiency compared to breastfed infants."
He states a bit more on this subject but doesn't say breastfeeding mothers
don't make enough DHA?!
