Hi Mary,
That book you mentioned, is sitting on my bookshelf at this very moment  :-)
I had been in contact with it's author a while back, when his first piece on
the John/Joan case (written for a popular magazine a few years back, the one
that lead to the book) caused such a stir in the medical community.
All that is considered "protocol" in the treatment of babies born with
ambiguous genitalia is based on that very case, and when it was discovered
not to have been a  success as previously reported, it began to unravel
procedures that were still being used today, some 30+ years later.
 It's a great book to read, especially as professionals (such as here on
Lactnet :-)   who work mainly with babies, moms, and families.
It's great to know that you and others have read it, too!!  :-)
