Hello All--
I am writing to ask for your collective wisdom and experience with an
interesting case. This is a mom who has had all of her three children with
our practice, she has true inverted nipples on both sides, we were able to
get one side out enough for her first baby to feed successfully, the other
side was much more difficult to evert, and so she let that other breast dry
up after 2-3 weeks. With the second baby, we tried again briefly to bring
out the nipple she hadn't used the first time, but she already had had good
success with using just one breast, and so that's what she did again. With
the third baby, she just used her "good" side. All children nursed a
minimum of 12 months.
Well, now she is expecting twins! We've already met and talked, and we'll
probably start using the inverted syringe method at ~ 37weeks, plus having
her wear a breast shell &/or do hoffman's exercises. Any other suggestions
and ideas? Her first child was born about 9 years ago, and at that time we
NEVER used nipple shields, but our philosophy changed after JHL's nipple
shiled issue a few years back, so I am sure we will keep that in mind as an
option also.
Please email me privately as well as posting to the list.
TIA--
