Dear Lactneters,
A 21yo patient with a Hx of Epidermolysis Bullosa will be delivering at our
hospital soon and is planning on breastfeeding. This presents itself as
blisters/sores in varying degrees of healing throughout her body mostly
caused by friction. I've searched the archives to only find info on caring
for an infant with this condition in 1997. We've contacted the DEBra
organization for direction, but it as well was pretty much limited to
infants. No genetic studies or tests have been done to confirm this in the
baby as yet. My question is: short of the usual positioning and good latch
techniques, are there any other tips out there or areas of concerns? The
plan as of now is to have the least tramatic type of delivery.(I
chuckled, shouldn't they all be that way!)I'm hoping that someone else has
run across this situation. Thanks for your help!
