I suspect it depends how the nipple is used. If the tip of the nipple
is inserted in the mouth, then the shape of the nuk might favor pressing
the tongue onto or slipping it off the beveled area of the nipple tip.
On the other hand, when I use them in my practice, I teach parents to
tickle the baby's lips with the nipple, then draw the baby onto the
nipple the way they would onto the breast, making sure baby's lips land
at the very base of the nipple. This way baby is feeding with the fat
base of the nipple in the mouth (reinforcing eating with looser rather
than pursed lips) and the tongue tip is below the base of the nipple,
far from that nasty little bevel. I wish someone would make a rounded
tip nipple with a base as fat as the stage 2 nuk. I often get
complaints that the baby feeds very slowly with this nipple, as opposed
to too fast.
