We can't underestimate the sucking stimulation, the mind, hormones etc.
Adopted moms who haven't had the benefit of pg can produce milk.  I think
the whole system is much more complex than anyone realizes and has lots of
back up mechanisms that come into play when circumstances aren't ideal. Of
course, the best plan  is to  use the system the way it was basically
designed, early, frequent nursing usually = sufficient supply, however we
all know there are more ways to get from A to B than a straight line :-)
