Just a question to bounce off those who also work with postpartum moms and
babes. Do you find, as I do, that babies often cluster feed in the
evenings? I find many moms frustrated because baby is nursing every 30 min
to hour for several hours, many times stopping around 1 am to sleep for a
longer stretch. I am constantly reassuring mom's that this looks like baby
is cluster feeding like many babies do, and that if they just hang on and
give them another feeding or two, that they may then give them a nice
stretch of sleep.
Also, am I correct to think colostrum remains the same throughout the
feeding, unlike mature milk that becomes richer later on in the feeding? I
like to tell the mom's that when they feed more frequently that each
subsequent feeding that is close to the last one is richer in fat and
calories, but I don't know that it is the same with colostrum. (since these
mom's are mostly under 48 hours from delivery)
