Hi everyone:
Wanted to update you on my client with tubular breasts and implants that I
posted about last week. She is waiting to hear from her surgeon of 10 years
ago but in the meantime she is nursing like crazy and taking fenugreek. Her
nurse-practioner told her it wasn't yeast & that her LC (me) was wrong. Then
the pediatrician was furious that this mom was giving Similac low iron as a
supplement. She only supplements 2-4oz in a 24 hr. period and the Ped. said
she definately needed high iron. The mom changed to a soy formula two days
ago on her own since the Similac was making baby fussy and gassy. Within
hours the baby vomited and screamed all day. In the meantime, I had given
her Dr. Jack's handout on gentian violet and suggested she try it because I
still thought yeast. Yesterday, the baby developed thrush in her mouth
(suprise) so she tried the GV. Well, the baby screamed and gagged and
vomited. This mother is so upset because she thinks she did a terrible thing
to her baby. I know the pediatrician will be furious with me when she sees
the purple mouth. The only GV she could get is in an alcohol base but she
only swabbed the mouth. She also covered her nipples and says she is getting
some relief. She has exclusively breastfed for 24 hours. I am concerned with
the surgery and making sure baby gets enough but obviously this baby does
not tolerate formula. I am encouraging her to take the baby to bed, rest and
relax. She's started bleeding again, bright red, is very stressed! Baby is
5 weeks old today. Mom feels so guilty and is getting so many different
opinions. I still think she needs diflucan? Do you agree? I am all alone on
this one and beginning to doubt myself.
