I am a labor and delivery nurse. I LOVE it when a patient comes in with
a big old birth plan. It means that I might have a chance to participate
in one of the 1-2% of births at my facility that do not involve an
epidural. After I see a birth plan, I ask where they took their
childbirth class. Then I ask what kind of relaxation techniques that
practiced at home, outside of class, and which ones worked best.
Generally I get a blank stare......"Practice? What do you mean, practice
relaxation?"
It is at this point that I mentally roll my eyes.
