I realized that I had not responded to Heather's comments on Lactnet, when
she asks,"I gather the FDA has not approved the addition of DHAs and AA's to
formulas, am I right? Yes, they have not approved these oils to be added in
American formula. But I do suspect that it will be difficult this time to
stop approval. They disapproved Wyeth's request last year for the addition
of these oils.

But we now have another concern because DMV International has requested GRAS
for bovine lactoferrin in infant formula. This is genetically
engineered--remember the makers of Dolly, they have also been working on
this. the last time I was at the web site this item was not there--its
recent(April). DMV International is part of Campina Milkuine(hope I spelled
it right), one of the largest dairy companies in the world--in Veghel, The
Netherlands. http://www.dmv.international.com/index2.htm

I am hoping that those of you who are appalled by the use of genetically
engineered formula, might consider writing the fda and expressing your
concern. I believe they are usually open to comment for a certain amount of
time. The GRAS notice no. for DHASCO and ARASCO from Martek Biosciences
Corporation is 41. The GRAS notice for bovine lactoferrin from DMV
International is 42. You can e-mail your comments to Dr. Linda Kahl at
[log in to unmask](that's the name and address at that fda site
