"Other than lack of sleep the only thing that I can come up with is that
they lack estrogen and that this could be leading to the decrease in sex
drive. By taking the estrogen could this issue be put to rest for these
women? And how much would it hurt a very well established milk supply???"
I don't know if giving estrogens is likely to increase sex drive.
Especially if the baby is fairly young. I would say that the fatigue is more
likely to be a factor. But I truly don't know.
The response of the milk supply to estrogens is very unpredictable. I have
had a number of women say that they took the birth control pill (with
estrogens) for two babies with no problem and then third baby, the milk
dries right up. And this is when they start it at 4 or 5 months after birth,
breastfeeding exclusively. I think it is too big a risk, frankly.
