In yesterday's Times

http:www.the-times.co.uk (search for breast or parliament or something
similar for 11 April) journalist Libby Purves writes a lovely, sensitive
piece about how vital it is for our legislators to be aware of newborns,
and the needs of mothers, by actually seeing them, feeding peacefully and
peaceably.

You won't agree with all of it (she assumes bf must stop when the baby has
solid food, for instance) but her political points are very well made.

She says "Some political arguments would be very embarrassing to make in
front of a gentle-breathing, trustfully suckling exemplar of those who
suffer the worst from your cruel pragmatism... A mother with a newborn is a
powerful symbol of common humanity, and for that reason should be ever
before us..."
