for working mothers to access that equipment directly, it is a problem when
the mother needs a clinical grade pump and thinks one of the commercial ones
will do the same thing. Plus, they get shared all over the place. There
are prob. 2-3 users for most of the Pump in Styles I encounter in people's

more stores with no counseling provided on their use. >>
This is a HUGE problem! So many moms are out there in the first weeks or
before birth buying these pumps and then they need a rental they did not
anticipate. How many hours do other LCs spend trying to explain why the pump
they bought/ borrowed/gotasagift may not bring in the supply they need for a
baby this age/stage?... A mom with a new baby, 16 days early, in NICU for
Jaundice and under lights was going to use a "bartered" PNS she got from
someone else, beginning on day 4, and wanted to know if she should just boil
it and I would tell her that was safe to use then. Honeslty, I felt I did not
have a good answer for her to that, so I directed her to Medela itself. Since
it is their pump setting up all these problems, I felt they should have the
best answer. Any suggestions for the next time this happens? Perhaps I should
call Medela myself? I would like these moms to take responsibility for this,
as well as the company. To paraphrase you, Barbara, what I don't know about
lactation consulting could fill a book, and I passed the test, so what does
that say?
Judy LeVan Fram, enjoying the just- as- knowledgeable, but less- filling
Lactnet :)
