Beth;
Sometimes I think today's kids need something that hits between the
eyes. Many become so jaded from everything they see on TV. I might
start with the picture of the Pakistani mom and her twins. If that
doesn't catch their attention, nothing will. Another idea might be
something that was on Lactnet a couple years ago where someone was
describing a wonderful "new" product that would make baby more
intelligent, reduce risk of diabetes, etc. etc. Of course the last
line was that such a product exists and it's mom's milk. Another is
an analogy from some years back. It was a fable about everyone
needing to learn to use crutches in case they ever broke a leg. In
time everyone was using crutches and no one knew how to walk without
them. It had much more detail. Sorry I can't remember the exact
sources, but maybe another Lactnut will. Good Luck. We really do
need to get young people thinking about breastfeeding BEFORE they
have babies.
Winnie Mading, who remembers her daughter at around age 5 saying to
a woman ahead of us in the checkout line "Why are you buying that
formula-don't you know you should breastfeed?"
