" Ultrasound studies done by Smith showed that sucking on a NUK nipple was the
least like sucking on a human nipple - the babies tended to use a "squash-pump"
action to get milk out of the nipple. (Other nipples evaluated were the Playtex,
Evenflo and Ross with the Playtex most resembling the human nipple during
breastfeeding, although most felt that the nipple was too short)."

With all due respect, this study is outdated and pretty darn meaningless. The
issue is not really what it looks like on U/S. The issue is "will baby open wide
and latch to a breast after having a certain style of rubber nipple." Of all the
possibilities, my experience tells me that if we are talking about a playtex
nipple the answer is likely to be no. I have had a great deal of success with
the NUK on the other hand...I think because it is bigger and fills baby's mouth.
i was happy to hear that Chele marmet's experiences are similar to mine.
