Dear Lactnetters,
I am working on a paper regarding the Baby Friendly Hospital
Initiative. I am trying to determine the reasons that the United States
has had so few hospitals "jump on board." I have contacted Baby
Friendly USA, UNICEF and the Center for Breastfeeding regarding
hospitals which have applied, etc...I'd like to know more about the
obstacles each hospital has faced in becoming certified. If you have
been involved in the process for a U.S. hospital that is certified
(there are 20 now) or is becoming certified, please contact me! In
addition, if you are in another country and can lend perspective on why
there are 14,000 overseas hospitals certified but so few in the U.S.,
I'd love to hear from you. I am particularly interested in how you have
approached hospital officials and if you have created a presentation to
"convince" them of the merits.
Thank you!
