give 48 hours of repeated responding to the baby's cues, lots of skin to

skin contact (yes, taking mom's shirt off even in the hospital) and mega

amounts of patience and faith that the process works most of the time
without gadgets.  Just having baby rub up against nipples repeatedly"


Chris, I believe this 6 hour thing is based in some older ILCA
reccomendations. The new standards allow for twenty four hours. I agree
that in many cases you might get away with 48 hours, however, in
re-writing our policy we are going with 24 hours so as to be consistent
with ILCA's reccomendations.
