Since you mentioned back pain, maybe the physician is worrying about low
estrogen and osteoporosis. So the physician needs to know
- amenorrhea is normal during bf for various lengths of time and certainly
some moms experience years of amenorrhea (not all do of course, even with
unrestricted bf)
- estrogen levels are lower during bf (this is normal)
- info on osteoporosis and bf, bones remineralize (if that's the correct
term) after weaning - check archives for refs
Perhaps mom is having back pain due to positioning, carrying her toddler,
sagging mattress, whatever. Look into this. You can assess her nutrition,
making sure calcium and other nutrients are adequate in her diet.
