I'd like to point something out that, hopefully deep in our hearts we all
know, all health care decisions--herbal or not--really are the mother's
decision unless she is unconscious, mentally incompetant or has had her
legal decision-making rights removed by a court of law.  I stress this point
over and over again with my patients that regardless of who the practitioner
is, THEY are the ones who must make the final decision balancing risks
against potential benefits.  This is the essence of truly informed consent.
