Since this post is a couple days old, I'm sure others ahve
responded, but I'll throw in my .02 in anyway.
A 5 MONTH OLD INFANT SHOULD BE FED AS OFTEN AS IT TAKES FOR A HAPPY
INFANT AND ADEQUATE WEIGHT GAIN.
I'm sure for some infants that might be 4-5 times in 24 hours while
for others it may still be 8-12 times in 24 hours. Sounds simple,
but I bet the "strict parenting book" wouldn't agree.
I keep wondering how many adults that think infants should adhere to
a regimented feeding schedule would do so themselves if not
influenced by outside forces (e.g. lunch hour as determined by ones
boss; breakfast in time to get to work or kids off to school; dinner
after everyone gets home, etc. etc.) When not under such influence
as when on vacation, I suspect these same adults don't follow a
regular eating schedule and yet they feel justified in stating an
infant (baby, child, toddler. whatever the age designation) should
do so! Go figure.
Winnie Mading IBCLC, Wisconsin - who would like to dispense with
clocks altogether. Wouldn't that be interesting?
