Hi everyone,
I'm so thrilled to be back on Lactnet after 2 years off. I had to come out
of lurking to answer Robs question as this sounds so much like my
experience with babies 2 and 3. Just a quick intro. I am a student LC (with
BSC) nearly done with the course, finally. I am also a childbirth educator.
I currently live in Birmimgham AL and have 4 BF kids (ages 8, 4, 2 and 3
weeks).

Now to Rob's baby: this sounds like an oversupply problem to me. With my
second baby I just had too much milk, she could never get down to an
"empty" breast to fall asleep on and thus never learned to use BF for
comfort. I didn't know enough then and so solved the problem with a
pacifier. (she is STILL using it at age 4, ARGH!) This baby refused to
nurse lying down until she weaned at about 20 months! With baby #3 I had to
wait as much as four hours before switching sides, actively considered
switching to using only one breast! It took almost 6 weeks for me to feel
like she could nurse comfortably and get to the "end" of the milk and fall
asleep at breast.

I found this was because there was just too much milk so BF never got
associated with comforting. IT wasn't something my second baby did lying
down because she had to work hard to keep up with supply, ate til she was
full and then quit. wiyh 3rd baby, once I got the supply right, she learned
to nurse in bed with me happily.

Also that  "Mom feels full pre-feed but not empty post feeds." sounds like
there is just too much.
