An extended BFing list I am on has an adoptive mother who is lactating
for her new baby. She has decided to use banked milk in addition to
her own. This is her recent posting to the group about this
experience. I have her permission to repost here. I thought some on
LACTNET might be interested in her experience. Not to worry ... many
moms on the list donate their milk and have helped clear up any
confusion there may be. If you are interested in corresponding with
her, please send it through me and I'll see she gets your mail.

Hi all, Me again (the adoptive breastfeeding person!) Nicole and I
have had some stumbling blocks along the way and actually stopped trying
to induce lactation but we are back at it! Can't ignore all the great
benefits that I am denying her...the least I can do is try!

Meanwhile my milk comes in, however much it will be, I have a
prescription for banked milk and would like to "talk" to anybody else
that has been on the receiving end for banked milk. I guess I am a
little bit worried about the chance of viral/bacterial transmission. I
am not ignorant to the screening that is done, both to donors and milk,
but can't help the way I feel. I am in TX so I will be using the
Mother's Milk Bank of Austin, but may transfer to the Denver Bank.

BTW Nic's pediatrician gave me the presciprtion w/"reservations"...his
concern being "One never knows why the donors actually donate. They may
just do it for the money." Boy did I set things straight!!! Told him,
actually told the nurse that returned the call to tell him, that donors
do not receive any monitary gains from their hard labor!!!! He was also
worried about the transmission issue...I assured her that proper
screening is done....and then the doubts began! LOL!!! So, here I am!

TIA!!! Marimar and Nicole

It will be gone before you know it. The fingerprints on the wall appear
higher and higher. Then suddenly they disappear.
