I have been reading your posts and the few that others have sent re your
nephew at Johns Hopkins who developed rash and diarrhea and sounds like
acidosis at 11 wks. Someone mentioned galactosemia but I think that would
present very soon after birth. I don't know if the mother has already dried
up and the bf situation is not going to be reversed at this point, but I
would try to think, think, think what possibly could have been introduced
either to baby or mother (dietary) that could have triggered this. Could be
an allergy but i agree that if it is resolving now the bf could be
re-introduced [slowly] like a food challenge. Maybe someone fed the baby a
taste of something (close to 3 mos old, lots of folks are feeding solids
then, unfortuantely]. Was baby on abx prior to this.? Was mother? Any other
meds or vits? This could also be viral; so many times our kids get a rash
and we don't know why? Maybe the illness is now past. Best wishes to all.
