I think the differences in studies may also be due to funding of studies.
Some of Schanler's studies are funded by Ross/Abbott Labs. see

Baylor College of Medicine, where Schanler does his research, is also very
involved in research on genetic engineering of lactoferrin. Of course this
research is about making a substance similiar to breast milk to be used in
formula and drugs.
Funding sources seem to change researcher's outlook and/or the way in which
