Rebecca: It is theoretically possible that due to our low DHA dietary
intake (in the US, moms have seen a decline in certain fatty acids over the
past 5 decades) that we are suffering these effects--depression among them.
Among other treatments (such as B-complex, red raspberry, alfalfa, St.
John's Wort, and others), I suggest that moms take EPA essential fatty acids
for mild to mod pp depression (and also for PMS and menstrually related
complaints). We've had great success with a combination called Fatty Acid
Selective Therapy that includes about 400 mg/dose TID of DHA (derived from
Borage Oil, Certified Organic Flax Oil, and Sea Cold Water Fish Oil, plus
Vit E) and the DHA may partially explain this. However, I doubt that DHA
is the complete answer.
