Someone asked about references for the economic impact of breastfeeding:
Dr. Miriam Labbok presented a wonderful talk on the Economic Benefits of
Breastfeeding a couple of years ago - I think it was at the ILCA conference.
I think she is still on the faculty at Georgetown Univ medical school. She
has also been the MCH director for the U.S. and WHO. She was a candidate
for U.S. surgeon general, so her credentials are wonderful. I would imagine
that ILCA still has a copy of that talk, if I am right in thinking that's
the conference where I heard her.
It was the same year that WABA printed that wonderful newsletter when
'economics' was the theme for World Breastfeeding Week. It had information
in it comparing how much of a family's food budget would have to go to buy
formula in various countries, etc. Contact WABA and see if they would send
you that back issue.
