Elishiva: I'm not quite clear on your question and also which variety of
sage she's using. For example, S Miltiorrhiza from China, has a sedative
and cooling effect. Some concern over the use of Saliva might be inferred
from the following:
Salvia Offincinalis:
Actions: carminative, antispasmodic, astringent, antiseptic, relaxes
peripheral blood vessels, REDUCES perspiration, salivation and LACTATION;
UTERINE STIMULANT; antibiotic; reduces blood sugar; promotes bile flow.
Constituents: volatile oil, diterpene bitters, tannins, triterpenoids, resin
flavonoids, estrogenic substances, saponins, vitamin E.
Several herbal texts recommend avoiding THERAPEUTIC doses (usually cooking
comes no where close) during pregnancy and lactation. Its potency may
reduce night sweats in menopause so the estrogenic effects are strong enough
to modify hormone levels.
