I just had to share these two wonderful pieces of news with you all!

Last night I got a call from a friend to say that she has been appointed
the FIRST EVER Lactation Consultant at our local hospital. We have been
pushing for this for years to no avail. Even though she has ben an IBCLC
for five years, she has only been *allowed* to work with nursing mothers
at the hospital in the time she could snatch from her regular nursing
duties in the Nursery. Apparently, the push for the appointment came from
local OB/GYNs. This will make such a difference to the new mothers in out
area.

Secondly, I just got another call from a woman with who I have been
working. She has never been able to conceive, and the call was to tell me
that her brand new adopted baby has arrived and THEY ARE NURSING! The
birth mother agreed to nurse her baby in the hospital so he would get
some of the colostrum, and I believe he was also fed with a cup on one
occaision. The adoptive mother is using an SNS with formula, and double
pumping between feedings. She is ecstatic! *He is a natural!* she
exclaimed. He latched right onto her, even with the SNS in place.

I have been down with the flu, was feeling better, and now am having a
relapse, but I just HAD to get out of bed the share this with you!
