> [log in to unmask] is the email address for Mr. James Akre at the nutrition
section of the World Health Organization in Geneva, Switzerland -- he
doesn't formulate policy, he writes it up and disseminates it to the public.
He is the author of the WHO's classic "Infant Feeding -- the Physiological
Basis" (or perhaps 'editor' would be the more appropriate term, as many
people contribute to this publication).
The debate about "4 to 6" versus "about 6" versus "not before 6" has been
going on for several years now. You can search the LactNet archives for
Akre where sender contains Dettwyler to read that I have been repeating this
to LactNet over and over. It is a complicated and politicized issue, but
the WHO Recommendations for Infant Feeding which have the "4 to 6 months"
recommendations remain unchanged as official WHO policy at the current time.
