The reason we treat strep throat is to prevent rheumatic fever. So unless
there is constant reinfection in the family, only the child with a strep
throat should be treated. There is no reason to treat the mother even if she
is nursing.

By the way, if the child is under 3 or 4 years of age, the chances of
getting rheumatic fever are almost nil, and no need to treat anyway.
