A mom on another list gave me permission to forward her info here in hopes
of help:
"(Do you breastfeed?) sort of...I am exclusively pumping since 5 weeks.
I put him to the breast at least once a day now. We developed thrush very
bad and I couldn't even touch my nipples. So I started pumping. Now the LC
thinks I have overactive letdown and he goes crazy with eyes bugging out,
screaming etc when on the breast so I am not forcing it. We try at least
once a day (sometimes more) so it doesn't become traumatic for him.
Hopefully the letdown will slow soon and that will solve the problem (if
that's really what it is!)
I think the thrush is gone....we tried everything and then I heard about
gentian violet which finally did the trick (so far)!!
I have tried pumping/expressing for OALD also. I'm not convinced that is the
problem. Sometimes he nurses right through the letdown then complains a
short while after that (eyes bulging, turns red, screaming). I guess I am
just going to try once a day and if that is our nursing relationship then
that is fine. I've accepted it and I'm fine with pumping full-time as well."
Any advice for her?
Shannon
