Judy, I'm so sorry for the awful position you are in. I wish that there
was a definite yes/no answer to your question regarding weaning in your
situation, but simply not enough is known to be certain. I can tell you
that a Dr. Marie Bianchi published an article in OBGyn a few months ago
that you might want to read. I found it at :

Also, I just read about a new drug for treating vertebral fractures at:

I understand how emotionally devastating such early weaning might be,
but as you said, you do have a family who depends upon your being able
to care for them, it's bound to be a tough decision, especially with so
little actually data available to guide you.
