The thread on tub bathing has been interesting to me, since I have just had
the topic put on the next meetings of our Peds and Family Practice
committees. I'm on a quest to get rid of the advice to sponge bathe newborns
until the cord comes off. I took an informal poll of the first few docs I
happened to see to gauge their opinions (none of them cared, so I'm hoping
this will be okayed), and one of them brought up a thought regarding the
circumcisions. He thought that, actually, soaking in a tub would be
beneficial for the circumcisions. I hadn't thought about it up until now,
but what do we tell our poor moms with incised and stitched up perineums to
do--take sitz baths or soak in a warm tub of water! Wouldn't a circumcision
similarly benefit?
