You know sometimes a mom feels touched out?  And as a divorced person with
no intimate relationship in my life I know I miss physical touch.  Probably
depends on  your physical and emotional needs at the time.  The giver of
the hugs is probably also significant.  ie: KD's reaction when "those
people" (who  unintentionally inflict great physical distress on her) want
to give her a hug, as if the hug will make what they had to do all better.
