Hi all,
I came across a mum who was diagnosed with elevated Prolactin levels, before
pregnancy, so was commenced on Bromocriptine tabs, which she stopped at 36
weeks into her pregnancy.
My question is: is she likely to suffer from severe engorgement post partum,
and how should it be treated in view of her diagnosed condition?
I do not know if her levels returned to normal, hence stopping the meds, or
if it was a choice she made without medical consultation.
She does not have a tumour, just hyperprolactinaemia.
I have suggested she go back to her normal GP post delivery, as she is
familiar with the lady and her condition, and is a breastfeeding friendly
GP.
Would be interested to hear of other's experiences in these field, as I
have not been able to satisfactorily answer my colleague's questions on this
matter.
I am concerned that she may have a huge Prolactin surge post delivery.
Thanks for your wisdom, and wishing everyone and their loved ones a
wonderfully Happy New Year.
Susan, Qld Australia
