Anne, I'm a LC and LLLleader and want to share some thoughts on this. You're
right in suggesting that professionals do not neccecairily know more. A fellow
LLLleader/LC of mine once described it as follows:
''A Leader has a jar full of beads and once a mother comes to her for
information, she starts searching her jarfull of beads untill she comes up with
the right one. An experienced leader has a jar full of beads that are different,
some bigger, some brighter coloured and she can find the right one faster. The
LC has necklesses of beads and sees them in their mutual correlation and is able
to pick up the one she needs rihgt away in most cases.''

I think I've said it before, but it actually was LLL that started with the
lactation consultants idea. The first LCs were experienced LLLleaders and they
expanded the profession both in knowledgeable depth and broadened input from
other professions.
