Part of my ex-husband's OB/GYN practice is treating referred pain. In
addition to looking for sources of pain in the breast, I would try looking
at the area on the mom's back that the pain shoots into. Massage it and try
to see if there is a trigger point, which will shoot pain into the breast if
pushed on. If so, try to massage it out, apply heat and/or ice, or even
consider lidocaine injections into the area (preferably with a 30g needle,
but no larger than 27g). Even if there is not a trigger which will actually
shoot pain into the breast, I would try treating the area, and see what
happens.

Good luck!
Darillyn
