The ads that the teens in my children's groups thought were "dumbest"
were the ones that were chosen to be shown on tv.  I can't help
wondering if this was deliberate, if they are purposely showing the
least effective antismoking ads possible...

There's no doubt that they put ads that will be least effective on TV.
Whether it's dumb or doesn't keep the kids' attention, or sends a mixed
message (ie. don't smoke but they portray smoking as cool.) It's all
part of the game. I don't understand why the government allows it. This
was part of a government agreement with tobacco. The gov't was sucked
into this hook, line and sinker. They are doing a same thing with
formula.
