Christine and lactnet,
Thanks for your input. I used to think this was a diagnosis of exclusion,
but I am re-thinking that. So far I believe I am proving to myself that the
moms I identify as very worrisome due to the size, shape, feel of their
breasts do indeed make less milk, and I am talking about drops of milk only.
Of course there are moms who have slightly assymetrical breasts and other
variations, which do not unnecessarily worry me.
I also had a mom with brittle type 1 diabetes on insulin pump, her baby had
hypoglycemia and was not eating, we were syringe feeding and sts, etc. Later
started pumping, there was maternal separation and c/s birth, all this
worried me and I discussed with mom why I recommended expressing, etc. Her
milk came in really well, she was a primip. So I don't think it is me
throwing out vibes or some kind of self-fulfilling prophecy, as I don't let
on to the moms with hypoplasia that I think they will have a very low
supply. All moms, of course, get the usual info on effective feeding, diaper
counts, wt loss/gain patterns, etc.
Thanks for input, this is interesting.
