Dear friends: I have been nomail for a while, so please email me privately
(too much work)...

The folks who are editing the WBW Action Folder for this year: THEME: BF IS
ECONOMICAL -- have asked me to put together some suggestions for action and
we need everyone's help.

I sent some ideas:

"-One thing that occurred to me that would be useful would be some
guidelines for calculating the costs of formula feeding, medical costs,
fuel, boiling water...a little like what Sandy did in her policy makers
handbook, but a little more user friendly.

-Some guidelines for calculating the cost of treating a sick child
according to illness (diarrhea with rehydration salts, otitis, etc. -- the
commmon stuff, bottlefed babies get in the first year of life -- just a
sort of list -- time off from work at minimum wage in X country, transport,
medicine, medical costs for private care --- time for caring for child,
special foods for recuperation, etc.

-Some other ideas might be a survey in a school about how students were fed
as babies and absenteeism for them at the present time... in whatever grade

-Do a study of missed days at work in factories or companies that support
bf or don't (a la Rona Cohen's study)

-Maybe a suggestion for action could be doing a case study of what it costs
a woman who works at the salary of a maquilla operator, say in Brazil or
some other country, to feed the baby, pay the added medical costs, clothe
herself, transport herself to work, pay her additional food costs for being
away from home ..

If anyone has ideas for actions that could be carried out and activities
for WBW, please let me know, so they can be included in the Action Folder...

Thanks.

Judy
