Being the stubborn woman that I am, I nursed my son both before and after
his circumcision, despite being told not to nurse him beforehand. I
figured it wouldn't be a big deal if he aspirates colostrum as it's such a
small amount and it's a physiologic fluid anyway.

Benjamin's circumcision was done at our local military hospital while Carl
was still active duty. They still have babies NPO for 2 hours pre-op.
Benjamin's doctor used a dorsal penile block. He was very calm through
the whole thing, he said. Don't know if it was nursing before and after,
the DPB or both. Benjamin didn't urinate until 23 hours and 55 minutes
after his circumcision (can you tell I was watching the clock?). And
dealing with the plasti-bell was one of the most horrific things (IMHO)
that I've dealt with as a parent. So glad when it finally fell off. At
the hospital where I work full-time, the doctors use the DPB and there is
no limitation on PO feeding for breast or artificially fed babies.
