 I've been reading the conflicting articles too,  My only suggestion for 4 mo would be if your family has a strong history of food allergies.  Otherwise 6 mo, when baby indicates readiness.  One of my grandchildren was very ready at 5 mo. and one of my son's turned up his nose at food until about 8 mo, fat little one that he was.  Also a granddaughter , who ended up getting asthma later on, really refused foods until after 8 mo.  I think that baby knew what agreed with her and what didn't.   We always need to watch the baby.  I think their signals are valid.  Remember studies are on large # of children and you are dealing with an individual.  Pat in SNJ
