There is now so much info about the microbiome.  It would say that the oil interferes with the microbiome in babies under 6 mo.  It surely is a cultural practice that needs to change in little babies.  Complementary foods are frequently not the best for babies starting to eat, which may be source of constipation.  Another idea is that oil is high calories and is making the babies a little satisfied and providing calories.  So I would encourage moms with young babies (under 6 mo) to wait and do exclusive.
Talk to them about the babies tummy and how only mom's milk is very best and oil messes important things up.  Pat in SNJ
