Rose Marie,
Here in California, breast pumps are definitely covered for rental, and they
are starting to work on specs for coverage of purchase pumps. We've had our
ups and downs, though, too...... I interface with two different Medi-Cal
authorities; with one, I file the appropriate paperwork and it goes through
no problem. With the other, we've gone through they "why can't this mother
use a manual pump?" routine, and my medicaid rentals are all for
hospitalized infants or sick mothers! Sometimes the left hand does not know
what the right hand is doing, and it can be the pits.
We have a state breastfeeding advisory task force that is currently working
on specs for purchase pumps and criteria for getting them. Jeanette Panchula
may be able to fill you in.
