I have been a reader for some time, benefiting from the problem solving,
suggestions and expertise on this listserve. I am a clinical coordinator for a hospital
based program that provides lactation consultation and offers universal home visiting
to the women who deliver in our county. We are successful in seeing,
on average, 90% of these families, around 2-3 days post discharge. The
nurses who do these visits have completed a 30 hour lactation course and are
working toward the goal of IBCLC certification. We see a smaller percentage
of the women antipartum through a state funded program. A f/u visit is planned
with a 17yo, G-1, P-0; whose S.O. is the FOB in early 20's, he has 2 children.
They are committed to an open adoption, after several visits with the RN, the 17yo
is very clear she will adopt out her babe. She is working with an adoption counselor
as well. She desires help in making a decision about breastfeeding while in the hospital.
Your thoughts and ideas in providing anticipatory guidance for this young mom
would be welcome.
Thanks in advance,
Pamela Arnott, RN, BSN, IBCLC
