You said this mom would consider alternative therapies-how about CST
(Cranio-Sacral Therapy); ADD/ADHD are listed on the Upledger Institute
brochure and website info (I think) as responsive to treatment with CST.
Naturopathic or nutritionist referral regarding diet may be helpful, too.
