Carol: Welcome back! I started "pushing" immediate and prolonged S2S care
here with our PP moms/babies on the unit, not just SCN, about 4 years ago. I
am observing that babies are more interested more often in nursing during their
entire hospital stay, not just the 1st 24 hours; mom's milk comes in more
quickly (about 24 hours earlier than if no or limited S2S is done); babies seem
to need less "help" latching correctly which leads to a decrease in complaints
of sore/cracked nipples from mom.
I look forward to the results of your research - I suspect it will bear out my
anecdotal observations.
