Hi everyone,

Came back from vacation, and went in to see the moms from our peds practice
in the hospital. I always check "the board" to see who is bf and who
isn't...I don't see the bo feeding moms, just the bf. (It would be nice,
but...). Anyway, as I was chatting away w/ the only mom I had that morning,
the IBCLC for the hospital poked her nose in to say hi -- and when I
mentioned this was the only mom I had, she said,
"Oh no, the mom down in XX room is bf." "Oh," I said, "the board says she is
bo feeding." She said, "Well, I have her as bf." "Hey, that's cool -- gives
me a reason to pop in there," says I.

Well, she WAS bo feeding. Lovely Chinese lady. We had a great talk (my
mother was born and raised in China, and my parents were missionaries there
before the communists sent us all packing, so I lived there as a little girl
for about a year or so -- now THAT gives away my age big time!). I asked her
how long she had been in the US, and what she was doing here -- she was going
to Wheaton College grad school -- well, I went to Wheaton College!!

The reason she had decided to bottle feed was that she was going back to grad
school in a month.

The next morning, the IBCLC saw me and said -- "What did you do? She was
breastfeeding when she left yesterday!!"

What can I say? We lived in China, and I went to Wheaton College! No,
really, I was quite casual about her bf for the month before she went back to
school, and then working together to figure out a good system for her either
continuing bf part or full time -- or weaning, whatever she wanted to do.

The mom called me yesterday, and bf is going very nicely. She's SO glad she
changed her mind -- milk is in (and this lady didn't bf or pump or anything
for over 48 hours) and she's doing fine.

Go figure. But a lovely ending!!

Some days are worth getting up for -- even early on a Sunday morning.

Jan B -- back in Wheaton.
