Hi all -- who aren't yet at ILCA --

Do any of you have any more information (other than what is in Lawrence)
about the incidence of transmission of Lyme disease through breastfeeding?

A mother called me, is 26 weeks pregnant, and has had Lyme disease for 1
year. She's been treated -- is continuing treatment through her pregnancy --
and wants to know about breastfeeding. Her physicians have encouraged her to
quit, saying the spirochete is in the breastmilk, though there is no evidence
as to whether the babies who got Lyme Dx got it during the pregnancy or
during breastfeeding.

Lawrence says that if treatment has been started, mom can breastfeed. I
wonder if anyone else has any more information other than that.

Sort of sounds like HIV -- does the baby get it through pregnancy, or from
breastfeeding if the mother is HIV positive. Sigh.

Are there any known antibodies produced in the breastmilk against the
spirochete?

Jan Barger, in sunny Wheaton who is sad she is NOT going to ILCA this year.
First one I've missed in 13 conferences....
